Berkey Water Filter

Picture
Why
Second to only air, water is the most important nutrient for you to feel great. There's a reason why the parents get the oxygen mask first on an a plane.  They need to be well-nourished to care for their young. People who are going to Own It and lead the way need to have the best of the best for their own health so that they can thrive and inspire others.

Said a former housemate, "And here I thought Oregon tap water was great: no fluoride, no sulfur taste, clean and fresh tasting.  And here along comes Beth with her Berkey and the water tastes even better!"

The Berkey water filter is my favorite earthly possession.  Water from this contraption tastes, literally, sweet. Guests comment all the time.

Effectiveness and Comparison with Other Products
The Berkey System is a gravity feed one. No plumbing needed. It sits on  your counter. It's far less expensive and more effective than other filters. You can go here for what they remove. Also, you can remove fluoride with additional filters.

Because Berkey filters are used for in-the-field rescue projects, they're durable, simple to assemble, and use gravity.  Just pour tap water into the top, it filters, and great tasting water is poured through the spigot.

Berkey advocates buying the biggest one so you don't have to fill it so often, but I disagree. Because the water filters so swiftly, I rather have the travel for Own It reasons (like lower carbon footprint) and takes up less room on the counter.

A quick word about the main filter cartridges. Ceramic filters remove bacteria, black ones go beyond to remove heavy metals. The trade-off is ceramic filters are more durable. I've listed each model with the black filters first because if you don't need to worry about super rugged needs, then they're better to have. I've only bought the black filters, and they seem durable enough. I would take them traveling and just package them well. If you're headed to some extra rough terrain, though, then the ones with ceramic filters are listed at the bottom.

And before you do buy a model of container, if you are a DIY type, there are many links on the internet (here's one) to show you how to make your own containers to put the filters in, though you'll still need to buy the filters.

You can also buy filters to get rid of fluoride.

Vetting
Go here for the testing results on what the Berkey with black filters removes. I think I've had my filter for over 10 years. There has been no failure in the unit. I've had to replace filters, but that's normal.
