A Little Preamble Before You Jump to "Buy"The main focus of this site is to let you know how to live a life that is a way higher quality and balanced than the one promoted by our current system. If you want to get the most enriching experience when shopping, get what is truly best for for you and skip the rest. Substandard products are just not worth your time and your money. Before you think you need to buy, you may not need to. There're a couple online resources for getting things used and free. One is by registering with "Buy Nothing." It's a volunteer-run organization that puts you in touch with neighbors to see if they have what you want before you go buy something new. Bonus: you get to know and create community. You guys probably already know about Craigslist "free" listings above "furniture" in the "for sale" section, but just in case, I thought I'd mention it here. If you need to buy something, do try finding it used by doing a search for "used [whatever you want]." There are many online sites that deal in the resale of items. Some are ebay, Etsy, threadUP, and Poshmark. There are also brick and mortar stores with used goods. You'll likely find them in the same internet search. This store will only link to goods from reputable vendors I believe in and/or use. They will be vetted or recommended by dear friends with years being environmentalists and activists. Some goods will have affiliate links, though that is not the criteria used to list them. However, I did take advantage of an affiliate program when I could to support my research and spreading of the idea of Own It Economics. If you have any recommendations or requests as to what you'd like to see in the store, or information about why I should not feature something, feel free to email me or fill out the anonymous form at the bottom of this page. Thank you so much for your interest and insights. |
The GuppyFriend is the most effective microplastic catcher I've found on the market for your washing machine. I've had mine for years and they continue to hold up. I use four for a large load of laundry. They prevent up to 86% of the plastic microfibers from clothing getting into the waterways every time we wash our clothes. Because the fibers are so small our filtration systems at the water treatment facilities are unable to catch them at all. That's why it's up to us. The issue of microplastic pollution in the oceans is one of the sleeping giants that threaten our world. You can find out more about them and other sleeping giants in the podcast dated 4.23.
Affiliate Info We asked to be an affiliate since we were going to be promoting them, but their margins are too narrow. Doesn't matter. Everyone with synthetic fabrics who loves the oceans and that wants the world to be free from plastic pollution should buy them for themselves and their friends, too. |
